Illustrated with twenty black-and-white plates, and numerous in-text images. Collated complete. A detailed study of foreign insects, observing their habits, habitats, physical structures, mating, and transformations during the life cycle. With chapters on coleoptera, orthoptera, hymenoptera, lepidoptera, and homoptera, amongst others. Written by Reverend John George Wood, an English writer who popularised natural history with his writings. Illustrated by Edgar Albert Smith, a British zoologist and illustrator, and Johann Baptist Zwecker, a German illustrator of books and magazines. Engraved by George Pearson, a renowned British wood engraver. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, sound with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Small splits in the cloth to the head and tail of the spine with the odd small mark the boards. Front hinge tender with rear hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound.
