He is a pioneer and expert in object–oriented software engineering. DOUGLAS C. SCHMIDT, PhD, is a professor of computer science at Washington University and consults for Lucent Technologies. He is a pioneer in the field of telecommunications patterns and frameworks. RALPH E. JOHNSON, PhD, is a member of the famed "Gang of Four" and a professor of computer science at the University of Illinois, Urbana–Champaign.
