First edition. Octavo. Bound in original publisher's cloth, gilt spine. pp. [i-vii] viii, [1] 2-492, with an 8-page publisher's catalog (dated February, 1850) bound in at the front. Circulating library bookplate on the front pastedown: St. Margaret's Works Library, North British Railway. Fading to the cloth and modest scattered soiling, good. The North British Railway, opened in 1846 as the line from Edinburgh to Berwick-upon-Tweed, had its workshops located at St. Margarets, Edinburgh. Seller Inventory # 393202
