Two volumes. 86 hand-coloured insect plates. Small octavo. Original pink papered boards: rubbed, Volume 1 lower corner worn and top edge fretting to top cover; both volumes rebacked later tan cloth. No lettering on spines. All edges uncut. Later endpapers (traces of old bookplates (not institutional) on front paste-downs. Vol 1: Frontispiece Lucanas (Plate 2) - outline contemporaneous pricked on recto for copying purposes (for needlework by an unknown lady) reattached lower edge at gutter. Pp.xvi including Title Page, verso blank, Advertisement, Methods of Catching & Preserving Specimens For Collections. Pp.v-xvi " An Explanation of the Principal Terms Used in Entomology" so pagination suggests missing Pp.4. However the text at foot P.xvi ' An Expla-" carries . smoothly through to "An Eplanation of the Principal Terms." commencing A Abdomen through to U-V, Urbicoli.
