About this Item
Green cloth with gilt spine titles and blind stamped cover borders, all edges gilt (AEG); rubbed all over with some light wear to extremities, front hinge cracked. Internally very crisp, clean and bright with almost no foxing or age-toning; the first 3 leaves have become detached, hence a little bumped at edges, and the FFEP, frontispiece and one of the plates are only just holding; obscured former ownership inscriptions to FFEP. Incl. 9 hand-coloured plates in near Fine condition. Collation: Frontispiece, blank, ?Notice?, pp. 1-42, 8 colour plates separated by blanks, 2 pp. adverts. Overall Very Good-. Photos available on request. This very scarce book is an abbreviated version of British Wild Flowers which doesn't describe all the species, only a representative example, usually the most common species, whereupon it describes the orders then describes the genera for each. The plates are new with the flowers often being redrawn a little larger, sometimes accompanied by drawings of their seeds or flowers, which don't appear in the plates of the larger British Wild Flowers.
