About this Item

First catalogue issued by this firm, the first American maker of fine precision instruments, founded in 1871 by two German immigrants trained in England. The partnership lasted until 1898 with each founding member continuing in the craft with their sons, both remnants going on to produce quality instruments. This catalogue, their first, includes directions for use & care, comments on their uncompromising quality, descriptions of instruments offered, price lists, tables, equations, essay on Engineers' Instruments and Their Adjustments by Leonard Waldo of the Harvard Observatory. Delicate paperback, as pictured. Front cover chipped & nearly detached; entire booklet creased, some tanning, small marginal stains on a couple of pages. Text & plates clean; 37, [3], 8 pages; VII plates and a few small diagrams. Size: 7" by 9�".
