Marjorie Florence Lawrence CBE (1907 - 1979), Australian-born soprano & noted interpreter of Wagner's operas. First, for the Metropolitan, to perform the immolation scene in Götterdämmerung by riding her horse into the flames --- the opening chapter to this book is rightfully entitled :"Tale of a Horse!". 5th of 6 children, afflicted by polio in 1941,and ultimated serves on the faculty of the School of Music at Southern Illinois, in Carrbondale. Her life was adapted to film filim (1955) staring by Eleanor Parker, whose performance was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress. Seller Inventory # 018883
