Illustr, 9.5 x 6, pict wraps, 359 pp. Light wear and soiling to covers, upper spine bumped, 1 1/2" vertical tear along upper rear spine, front inner hinge cracking else very good. Covers mainly the 18th and 19th centuries. From the inside cover: "The writer was a practising wigmaker and Ladies' Hairdresser for 30 years in the family business at Bristol, founded in 1850, by his maternal grandfather, John Stevens . . . The original manuscript work-books of John Stevens and his wife, Frances, have provided important evidence of terms, uses and processes of the Victorian period." FIRST ED.
