Add to basket[ix]pp contents and prelims + 326pp, loose errata slip, illustrations, red boards with black cloth spine, gilt titles to spine, dustwrapper. In fine condition with a previous owner's name neatly written on the front flyleaf. An excellent example of the first British edition. Welchman's book was first published in the USA by McGraw Hill in early 1982. At the time much of the information in the book was classified and, as a result, its publication was of considerable concern to the National Security Association. In April & May 1982 notes were exchanged with the then British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, about its forthcoming publication in the UK by Allen Lane. Although Allen Lane were 'spoken to' they decided to go ahead and it was published at the end of July 1982. The NSA and GCHQ, however, put pressure on the US and UK publishers which resulted in the book being withdrawn from their lists. The McGraw Hill book is relatively common but the Allen Lane book much less so. There is a hybrid version which is the McGraw Hill book in the Allen Lane dustwrapper.
