The 20th book in the Oz series & the 6th in the series written by Ruth Plumly Thompson (the 2nd "Royal Historian of Oz"), "founded on & continuing" the tradition of the original 14 stories by L. Frank Baum, with the original illustrations of artist John R. Neill 261 pages of paginated text, along with the decorative endpapers & colorful front paper pastedown. Orig. published in 1926, this is a First or extremely early printing of that FIRST EDITION, meeting the criteria for the perfect vs broken type on pages 21 & 252 identified by Hanff & Greene (p. 93), along with all other points. Of the original 12 full-color inserts (1 frontis + 11 internal plates on glossy paper), 2 are missing, 2 are detached, $ 2 are loose. The rest are lovely, with some tanning/soil/spotting to some of the margins. Octavo (6.75" x 9.25") has "drab" green cloth-covered boards with a colored paper pastedown to front cover & black lettering & design to spine. Condition is Poor: heavy soil/bleached area to rear board, tearing of cloth at front hinge, fraying at both ends of spine, corners heavily bumped with loss. Front pastedown has nicks & rubbed spots, small area of sticker pull to top-fore edge side corner. Text block secure, but shaky, both hinges cracked & reglued. Hard to find with the original color plates, if you can overlook the condition. No DJ. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.…
