Item description from seller

FIRST EDITION. Trade paperback. B/w illustrations to front and rear. Dent to spine, warppers a little creased, sticker to back wrapper. Tanned edges, a few spots, black stain to bottom edge. Else, clean. A very good copy. Deming's retrospective account, written shortly before her death, of her year of travel/ travail in 1950-1, which recounts her own lesbian story. The first chapter featured in her short story collection, Wash Us and Comb Us (1972). "I address it too to all my lesbian sisters who are struggling as I struggle in this book with the difference that we struggle now in less isolation to believe in our right to offer this kind of love. An odd 'right' to have to struggle to claim the right to be who we are." (Deming, Foreword).
