Item description from seller

REHDING, Alexander. Hugo Riemann and the Birth of Modern Musical Thought. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2003. First edition. 8vo. x, 218 pp. Illustrated with musical examples; glossary, bibliography, index. Original publisher's cloth, in original pictorial dust jacket. New Perspectives in Music History and Criticism, 11. Condition: Fine/Near Fine, appears as unread, with inventory number in blue ink on first free endpaper. In Near Fine dust jacket with an unusual localized printing anomaly to the upper orange band, resulting in an irregular area of deficient orange ink at the left; the surface coating and texture remain uniform, most likely indicating a production defect rather than subsequent fading or wear. Rehding's study reassesses the musical thought of Hugo Riemann (1849–1919), particularly harmonic dualism, by placing his theories in the wider intellectual context of late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century natural science, German nationalism, technology, aesthetics, and the emerging academic discipline of musicology.

Store description

In Libris Veritas specializes in vintage, antique, collectible, and obscure non-fiction. While this may be too broad to define as a single category, it allows us to buy, sell, and collect books that interest readers and collectors, and which often end up on our own bookshelves when we forget to sell them. Some of the areas we specialize in are medicine, engineering, technology, psychology, agriculture, the occult, religion, spirituality, and militaria. We are second-generation booksellers. Our family has been in the book trade since 1975, when my mother was an antiquarian book dealer.

Specialty

Collectible, vintage and antique non-fiction with specialization in technology, the arts, music, science, history, the occult, aviation, militaria, spirituality, and religion.
