First edition. Large 4to black cloth lettered in black and gilt and with a color pictorial cover onlay. With a color frontispiece and 35 full-page plates, nine of which are in color, numerous b/w text vignettes and two small mounted color vignettes, all by Pyle. This copy with a FULL-PAGE ORIGINAL WATERCOLOR BY MERLE JOHNSON on the front flyleaves. Interestingly inscribed twice by Johnson, first to Major Drake from Sergeant Johnson in 1921, and second to Mrs. Colonel Drake from Lieutenant Johnson in 1923. A bit of very light foxing to the title page, else a fine copy in a good dust jacket. A unique copy.
