384 Pp. Blue Cloth, Lettered In Black On Spine And Front Cover. First Printing. Bright And Clean Covers, Edges Of Page Block With Some Tiny Foxing Spots, Pages Clean But Aged, Former Owner's Name In Pencil And Ink On Front Pastedown With A Four Line Pencil Note On Rear Pastedown, A Few Scraps Of Budgets, A Class Grade Slip, Laid In Loosely. A Few Pencil Notes And Underlines In The Text. Per Wikipedia,Mabel Hyde Kittredge (1867 – 1955) Was An Early 20Th Century Home Economist And Social Worker. Kittredge Was The Daughter Of The Well-Known And Well-To-Do Presbyterian Pastor Abbott Eliot Kittredge. She Was Raised In New York City And Lived There For Most Of Her Adult Life. As A Teenager She Studied At Miss Porter's School In Farmington, Connecticut. Kittredge Advocated For School Lunches And Started The Hot-Lunch Program In New York City Public Schools In 1901.Afterwards, She Continued Develop The Program For The Next Two Decades, Finally Succeeding In Getting It Funded By The Board Of Education In 1920. Kittredge Helped To Financially Support The Henry Street Settlement Founded By Her Close Friend Lillian Wald, And Even Lived At The Settlement Briefly In The Early 1900S. Kittredge Became A Household Adviser Because She Believed In The Importance Of The Home In National Life And Because She Was Shocked By The Conditions In Which Many Immigrants Lived. Like Christine Frederick, She Aimed To Improve Household Management In The United States, With A Focus On Making Better, Safer Food And Furnishings Available To Women With Little Money And Teaching Them Up-To-Date Household Management Technique. Under The Umbrella Title Association Of Practical Housekeeping Centers, She Established The First Of Several "Model Flats" In A New York City Tenement In 1902, Declaring: "If Household Administration Is To Take Its Place In The Front Rank With The Other Professions Of The Day, Educators As Well As Women Must Wake Up And Realize That The Whole Housekeeping Question Is Dependent Upon Scientific Management, Efficiency, Skilled Labor, And Effective Tools." Her 1911 Book Housekeeping Notes: How To Furnish And Keep House In A Tenement Flat Was A Compendium Of Household Management Lessons Taught In These Centers, And Her 1918 Book The Home And Its Management Offered Practical Advice On Thrift In Furnishing A Home As Well As In Shopping For Daily Necessities. She Became The Most Famous Home Economist (Also Known Then As Home Adviser) Of Her Day. In 1915, She Attended The International Women's Congress For Peace And Freedom At The Hague. She Went Overseas During World War I, Working For Herbert Hoover And For The Commission For Relief In Belgium, Heading Up The Child-Feeding Program In France And Belgium. She Saw Her Work For The War Effort As Analogous To Her Work On Household Management: Both Were Forms Of National Service. If you are a consumer you can withdraw from the contract in accordance with the following. Consumer means any natural person who is acting for purposes which are outside his trade, business, craft or profession.

Statutory right to withdraw
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.
Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to Arroyo Seco Books, Pasadena, Member IOBA, Pasadena, California, U.S.A., +1 626-372-3863, without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
Exceptions to the right of withdrawal
The right of withdrawal does not apply to:
- The delivery of newspapers, journals or magazines with the exception of subscription contracts; and
- The supply of digital content which is not supplied on a tangible medium (e.g. on a CD or DVD) if you accepted when you placed your order that we could start to deliver it, and that you could not withdraw once delivery had started.
Shipping terms
Postage, handling and insurance are extra, at estimated cost and processing fee. Shipment at standard rates is for small to standard sized books via media mail within U.S., or via Priority Mail envelope overseas, with tracking. Standard shipping costs are based on books of standard size with shipping weight of 4 pounds or less; if a book order is heavier or oversized, extra shipping costs may be charged. Non-standard and higher-valued international shipments are charged estimated postage and shipping costs, including full insurance for all shipments valued over $200. The full purchase price is always indicated on the Customs statement.
