1st edition, 1st printing, so stated. 8vo size, One of the most beloved editions of Tolkien s enduring classic, a staple of Generation X s childhood libraries. Bound in green pebbled leatherette with cover illustration stamped in gilt, bordered by a runic design stamped in gilt and red, with similar spine design and gilt titles. All edges marbled in green. A lavishly produced edition, with Thror's map reproduced on front and back endpapers, and all of Tolkien s original illustrations for The Hobbit, both those in green and black, and the full-page watercolor plates, including Hobbiton, Rivendell, and the Conversation with Smaug. There is a bit of top corner wear, slight fading to the stain on the fore edge, and the slightest smudge on the margin of the front Thror's map--not affecting the image--but otherwise the book is fine. In a VG+ slipcase with mild scuffing and scattered small flaws. In uncertain economic times, what better way to invest your money than in items of lasting value you can hold in hand and enjoy?
