Add to basketThis is a perfect copy of The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling, the Henry Fielding classic published in 1749. It is still considered as one of the world's greatest novels. This is the Wesleyan University edition, which is acknowledged as the best available, as it is an unmodernized text which presents the story in as close as is possible to Fielding's own final revision. It includes a chronology of Fielding's life and the 'Geography of Tom Jones' map (in color). It is heavily illustrated, in color and black and white, by the American illustrator Warren Chappell, who created the illustrations in 1943. The editors' text was first released in 1975; it was all brought together in 1982; this is a first edition of that printing. It is a thick, heavy book--1000 pages, including 2 maps, 18 color illustrations and 21 black and white illustrations. It has cream tweed covers, a bound-in burgundy silk bookmark and comes in a reinforced and illustrated brown slipcase. This copy is in mint condition. It has not been read; there is not a mark in it or on it. It is pristine.
