8vo. [5], 6-637, [5] pp. Green blindstamped cloth with copper lettering on the spine and a black topstain. Illustrated with a steel-engraved frontispiece portrait of Moses Strong. Howes S1081. Strong's history of Wisconsin begins with the earliest European exploration of the Eastern Seaboard, and then transitions to early exploration of what is now Wisconsin and Minnesota. Strong also includes a history of the Langlade family, some of the earliest European residents of Wisconsin (during its days as a U.S. Territory), an exposition on Green Bay, Chequamegon, Prairie du Chien, Milwaukee, and other Wisconsin cities, notes on the Black Hawk War, early mining, and details on the transition of the Wisconsin area from a territory to a statehood. A Very Good or better example with an owner's slip (compliments of Fred C. Schuler) on the free front endpaper and a tiny separation between the backstrip and the textblock.
