A very good copy of first American the hard cover edition, lacking a dust-jacket (perhaps as issued). Save for a previous owner's bookplate on the front endpaper and another owner's name in ink atop the front free endpaper the text is wholly unmarked, pristine, and the salmon-colored pebbled cloth binding with gilt lettering on the spine is remarkably bright and fresh in appearance. As might be expected, pages are a tad yellowed with age. The seam of the front endpaper has split, revealing the webbing beneath, which is intact and not cut; still, the front cover wobbles very slightly when open. A handsome copy of this important work.
