Small 4to. 913 pp. Photo-illustrated plates of portraits and views. Three-quarter black morocco over green cloth boards; marbled endpapers. A near fine copy of an uncommon county history (light scuffing at spine ends). A history of Merced County from pre-statehood days, the early exporations first led by Jedediah Strong Smith, the first American settlers to California, John C. Fremont, to the creation of Merced County. Much on the early pioneer settlers, Yosemite Valley, explorers, the cattle industry, land grants, the coming of the railroad, education, water, politics, newspapers and so much more.
