A very good copy. $75. * This book traces the development of income tax from its beginnings in 1799 to the mid-twentieth century with reference to social, economic and political history. It also details how the tax transitioned from a tool for financing the Napoleonic Wars to a foundation for Victorian prosperity, eventually becoming a dominant feature of British finance following the expansion of the World Wars.
