Item description from seller

A very scarce, first edition of Alfred John Dunkin's history of Deptford in Kent, illustrated with plates, some of which are folding. The first edition. Bound in full crushed morocco with cloth boards. Very scarce. A topographical survey or history of Deptford, in the ancient region known as Hundred of Blackheath in Kent. First recorded in 1166, Blackheath contained twelve parishes, one of which was Deptford; the name "Blackheath" now refers to a district of South East London, with the original parishes now lying largely within the borough of Greenwich. Written by British antiquary and historian, Alfred John Dunkin, a local to Kent, growing up in Bromley. Illustrated with ten plates, a frontispiece and three folding maps. No collation available, although a copy held by the Bishopsgate Institute states 21 plates and 3 folding plates. With a note from the publisher mentioning illustrations including a portrait of John Dunkin, a picture of the old Trinity Houses and John Evelyn's Map of Deptford have been added to enhance the general interest expressed in the work. Bound in full crushed morocco with cloth boards. Externally, very smart, with light rubbing to the extremities and an area of rubbing to the front board. Endpapers renewed. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed.…
