First edition.Rebound in full brown cloth.This comprehensive guide describes the measurements, materials, features, antiquities and history of the magnificent York Minster.Written by George Ayliffe Poole and John West Hugall, both of which strongly advocated the Gothic Revival, with Hugall having carried out architectural projects from 1848-78, including All Saints' Church, Lullington, Derbyshire and St. Cuthbert's parish church, Ackworth, among others.Illustrated with thirty-five engraved plates, with one hand coloured and one duotone. Three plates are folding. Collated, complete.Bearing the bookplate of Donald Buttress, an architect based in St. Albans, Hertfordshire and a co-founder of the Manchester-based practice Buttress Architects. He was also involved in the completion of external restorations to Westminster Abbey and was Surveyor of the Fabric from 1988 to 1999. Rebound in full brown cloth.Externally, very smart, with mild rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with occasional scattered spots.
