First edition In 3 volumes. Tan full polished calf, red Morocco labels, gilt decorations and lettering, all edges marbled. End boards marbled apart from front end board of vol 1. Four folding maps. Vol 1, pencil mark front end paper, all folding maps foxed / discoloured, scattering of foxing / discolouration on other pages. Very nice copy. A history of the exploration of all of Asia by Westerners, beginning with Alexander, together with a first-hand account of the present (1820) conditions. Murray (1779-1846) was a prominent geographer and historian, his most famous work (his magnum opus - DNB) being the Encyclopedia of Geography (1834).
