Item description from seller

A Very nice first U.S.edition in dust jacket of the third Philip Marlowe novel by this celebrated author. The true first edition, dated 1942 and with 'FIRST EDITION' on the verso of the title page. The book is in light brown cloth, lettered in dark brown. Very slight wear to top and tail of spine, and board tips. Clean and complete inside, with a previous owner's blind stamped label on front end paper, unobtrusively. A sound, VG+ copy. The jacket is complete, first issue priced '2$ net'on the front fold, not price clipped, no loss, some very slight edge wear and dusty rear panel. The main fault is that the jacket has apparently been cut down in length ever so slightly, but barely noticeably, lettering unaffected. The wonderful jacket illustration is surreal.
