Maroon boards and spine lettered and lined in gilt; 3 cm x 1 cm pale spot on front and four smaller less significant ones ar rear. Internally endpapers foxed, the front ones with two stamps, a small black spot and signature; the next two blanks stained, the half title a little spotty and the photo frontis and title page foxed; unsightly finger marks to the first ten pages largely absent thereafter though there's an outbreak of foxing between pages 33 and 44, reappearing intermittently.
