First Edition. Noel Syers dustjacket art and illustrations. Hubin listed mystery in the vein of Ernest Bramah. "The calm verbosity of the Chinese, whether in love or business or banditry, or even murder, makes Mr. West's book very good comedy. He knows China, he writes with amusement, and he has discovered a really new setting for a detective story. The story deals with the adventures of Ming So, the 13-year-old son of a poor widow, who is taken away by his wealthy uncle to make his fortune in the city. Ming So finds himself intertwined with a girl several years older, and a horrible murder." Near Fine in dustjacket that would be Very Good but for long closed tear at mid front panel, mended with scotch tape at verso which has darkened.
