1882. First edition. [iii], 176pp., a folding map, folding plates and black and white illustrations within the text. As the title suggests, this book contains brief historical account of various sites to be visited by The Royal Archaeological Institute in August 1882, in the vicinity of Carlisle. It includes accounts of Roman Cumberland and Westmorland; Carlisle and its Corporation; Carlisle Castle; Brougham Castle, and Lanercost Priory. The book is bound in the original paper covered boards with black titling on the front board. The case of the book is in good to very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling n the boards and browning to the paper around the edges of the boards. About 1 1/2" is missing from the paper covering the top of the spine and about 1" from the bottom. Smaller pieces are missing from the rest of the spine which also has signs of old repairs to the remaining paper. The contents are tight and clean with foxing to the endpapers and a little foxing on the fore edge of the title page and following page. There is no inscription. Seller Inventory # Net0915
