Boards full bound in yellow and red spotted cloth with blue stamping on the spine and blind stamped on the back. Dust jacket has minor scratches but no lifting. Margins bumped with minor tears and minor tears on the spine and joint ends. Board margins and corners bumped. Binding slightly cocked but firm. Page ends lightly soiled. Former owner bookplate on front pastedown, with tiny pencil numbers written at top and bottom inside corners of rear pastedown. Minor discoloration in both endsheet gutters due to glue castoff. All other pages relatively clean. A Very Good or better copy in a Very Good or better and Scarce dust jacket. A satire on the absurdity and emptiness of popular culture, the novel follows married couple Janet and Howard Shirley. Howard wins millions on a TV quiz show but, after discovering he is clairvoyant, predicts the oncoming decline of civilization. Burgess used the pseudonym Joseph Kell for only two novels: One Hand Clapping and Inside Mr. Enderby. One Hand Clapping was followed immediately by A Clockwork Orange the next year under his original pen name, Anthony Burgess.
