* AS PICTURED - 5 IMAGES * FIRST EDITION, First Printing, undated but 1899. Quarto (28x20)cms, in original beige canvas/buckram cloth boards with black decorations and text as pictured. Bright and intact, but with general bruising and staining and lower edge of spine panel split head to tail. Page block loosening somewhat from binding, with some gapping, particularly at covers/eps gutters, but predominantly holding well. Illustrated eps with some light brown staining. pp : 48 (preface), + 96 unnumbered, with each of the 24 plates, present as called for, printed recto, blank verso, and each preceded by a single leaf blank other than for title recto. + 4pp adverts. The lithographs are each 20x18 cms approx, generally black and white on a neutral brown ground with one additional colour, the artist's name included, and bordered in black with rounded corners. They are, mercifully, predominantly free from any serious foxing or staining, though there are some light patches here and there throughout, chiefly to prelims and back pages.
