Born in Peaster, Texas, Robert Ervin Howard [1906-1936] was an American pulp writer of fantasy, horror, historical adventure, boxing, western and detective fiction. He is perhaps best known for creating in WEIRD TALES the character Conan the Cimmerian, a.k.a. Conan the Barbarian, a literary character right up there with Tarzan, Sherlock Holmes and James Bond He is credited with creating the genre now known as "sword-and-sorcery" in the 1920s and 1930s.
