1st Printing. 280 pages. Published in 1995. Posthumous collection of the author's nonfiction. One of Danilo Kis' finest achievements. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a tiny first print run as a hardcover original only. There is NO equivalent volume in Serbian, Hungarian, or Croatian. Presents Danilo Kis' "Homo Poeticus: Essays And Interviews". Edited with an Introduction by the devoted Susan Sontag. Collects, from various, disparate original sources, Danilo Kis' pieces, which individually and collectively, represent an indispensable contribution to world literature of the writer's work. Danilo Kis was The Wandering Jew par excellence. He lived everywhere in Europe, and wherever he was, received well-deserved acclaim, awards, that is to say, prestige, not just recognition. Had he not died young at the age of 54 in 1989 (from lung cancer), he would surely have received the ultimate prize: The Nobel. In any case, no one else of his generation was more deserving. An absolute "must-have" title for Danilo Kis collectors. This title is a great collection. This is one of very few copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing (American) still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Copies available online have serious flaws (because the beige DJ soils right away) or are the Softcover Edition. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A scarce copy thus. One of the greatest writers of the 20th century. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER DANILO KIS TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 0374257914.…
