Map Volume II with 6 maps and appendices (1932). The Gallipoli Campaign aimed to secure a sea route to Russia and its warm-water ports and weaken the Ottoman Empire. But meeting stiff Turkish resistance, led by the future founding father of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, it ultimately resulted in a costly stalemate and with heavy casualties for the Allies. However, the campaign also fostered national identities in Australia and New Zealand, marking a pivotal moment in their histories and establishing April 25 as ANZAC Day as a world-wide day of remembrance for their military sacrifices. Here is a complete sub-group on the Gallipoli campaign from the official British Government’s monumental, 109-volume history of The Great War. This outstanding series documented Britian’s military, naval, and medical efforts during the First World War. Produced by the Historical Section of the Committee of Imperial Defence between 1915 and 1949, this ambitious project sought to preserve detailed accounts of the war effort for future military instruction and strategic study. While not without some detractors, these campaign studies aimed to synthesize detailed military description with academic analysis, illustrating both successes and failures to ensure that future military personnel could draw explicit lessons from historical events; including some disputed criticism of senior officers and politicians, including then First Lord of the Admiralty Winston Churchill. But from Gallipoli, Winston Chruchill took lessons learned while planning for the invasion of mainland France and other operations in World War II. Here, a full set of this important official British government history of the Gallipoli Campaign in WW1.…
