Item description from seller

Small 4to. (24 cm.) unpaged [28p.] plus text starts on the inside of the front cover and continues on the inside of the rear cover. Illustrated with very many black and white captioned drawings and photos and with a four page center spread that includes eight color drawings by Peter Sullivan of various kinds of hovercraft. Glossary. Stapled booklet in color pictorial wrappers printed in black and with a complex hovercraft pictured on the front cover. Just touches of wear to extremities, spine somewhat rubbed, wrappers lightly soiled, corners square and flat, a bit of rust on the staples, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. "Yet another form of transport is now available: a vehicle that rides on air--not an aeroplane, that flies through the action of air pressure on his wings; not a helicopter, that whirls through the air as its roller blades turn, but the Hovercraft. Its basic principle is that a downward jet of compressed air, forced against the surface of the ground, or water, provides a steady and reliable cushion on which the Hovercraft is lifted and then moves about. To understand the place of this new transport in the history of flying, we must look back at its ancestors, other flying machines, to see what inspiration and what ideas it derived from them." [from the introduction] Sections in this booklet include the following: The History of Flight, Principals of Flight, The Hovercraft, and The Future of Hovercraft. This is Number Two in the Daily Mail Key Books series. An easily accessible overview of hovercraft, which includes a drawing of C.S., Cockerell who invented the first hovercraft.
