Item description from seller

THE FIRST EDITION OF THE FIRST SEPARATE ACCOUNT OF NEW SOUTH WALES, 1786. Illustrated with 2 maps on 1 sheet, a chart of New Holland, New South Wales, Botany Bay, and the New Discovered Islands in the North and South Pacific Ocean, hand coloured in outline, corrected second printing of the map with longitude East from the meridian of Greenwich at foot (omitted from the first printing). Small slim folio, page size: approximately 235 x 185 mm, 9¼ x 7½ inches, no binding, stitched as issued, publisher's small device on title page, price one shilling and six-pence at bottom of title page, note to reader about the chart on reverse of title page, pages: [2], 33, [1] - adverts mentioning books by Captain Cook, loosely laid in purpose-made covers of modern half dark blue morocco over blue cloth sides, gilt title to upper cover, white pastedowns, in matching cloth slipcase with morocco around opening edges. Title page slightly dusty with 2 small creases (paper fault), 2 small chips to top margin of map, neatly repaired, occasional pale foxing, otherwise a very good clean copy of an early Australian pamphlet. See: The Parsons Collection, Rare Pacific Voyage Books, Hordern House, Part 2, No. 139; David W, Forbes, Hawaiian National Bibliography 1780-1900, page 97, No. 115. According to John Alexander Ferguson, Bibliography of Australia, Volume I, page 5, our pamphlet published by Fielding is the first edition with price on title page without brackets, "second edition" being printed on the title page of the second edition, also published by Fielding. The edition published by John Stockdale is the third with the map printed by John Fielding bearing the same date as in the other editions "Novr. 4, 1786". The pamphlet was printed again in 1789 as an appendix to An Authentic Journal of the Expedition under Commodore Phillips to Botany Bay, London, C. Forster, and there attributed to "An Officer"; ESTC T136354. MORE IMAGES ATTACHED TO THIS LISTING, ALL ZOOMABLE, FURTHER IMAGES ON REQUEST.
