Limited to 125 copies, this is number 33. SIGNED by the artist. This is an unbound copy with twenty-five woodcuts of animals. The title translates to "Cheerful Animal Book with 25 Woodcuts". Josef Weisz (1894-1969) was a Munich-born artist. He was known as a book illustrator, having created the plates for Goethe's "Faust" in the 1930's. He served combat duty during World War Two and produced a "War Sketchbook", an art portfolio with 195 drawings from Russia, France, and Belgium. He dealt primarily with portrayal of plants through his career, but in the 1950's began drawing scenes from the animal world. Size: Quarto. Seller Inventory # 012601
