About this Item
First Edition. Very Good decorative binding, showing dandified swordsmen silhouetted gold against lilac cloth. Minor faults: a bit of foxing, and owner signature on title page. Decorative endpapers. Full color tissued frontispiece and two other inserted full color plate by Ethel Franklin Betts (1878-1956) well remembered for her children's book illustrations. Elaborate two color chapter-illustrations plus decorative devices by Frederick Garrison Hall (1862-1972). Quite a beautiful book. A period romance of the last hurrah for pre-Revolutionary France in days of coaches, patches, dandies, and their mistresses. Seller Inventory # 5255
