Sea Green decorative cloth boards with gilt titles to spine and front board, 245 x 160 mm approx. Victorian pale green floral design end papers. 94 pp. Frontis + 14 other monochrome photographic plates as called for + a few other unspecified b/w illustrations. First Edition 1897 of a privately published collection of poems by a local resident. The author explains in the forward that the cost of the photographic views to accompany his poems cost more than anticipated and accordingly with a view to meeting a wider demand a cheaper Edition with fewer illustrations is also offered. The copy offered by us is of the fully illustrated and more elaborate first printing. It was printed on heavy quality china clay paper by Burfield & Pennells of Cambridge Road Hastings, dedicated to the people of the Sussex seaside town and of appeal to past and present residents. Good (Heavy shelf wear to cloth with moderate bumps to top corners, general shelf soiling, previous owner name with note of ownership in ink to top of front paste down, end papers and binding sound, glue to back strip beginning to fail resulting in the book block becoming a little floppy in use- sewing and mull holding. Two or three of the illustrations were loose on acquisition by us and have now been tipped in with p.v.a. to avoid loss/ rubbing. Mild foxing to reverse of free end papers. No other notable defects).
