About this Item

Description:

Brown cloth. Folio. Pictorial dust jacket. 568pp. A comprehensive history of the Vickers Machine Gun. The book opens in 1908 when in a stroke of genius the Maxim action was turned "upside down" to become the "Light Pattern" Vickers machinegun. Some background on the powerful Vickers family is given as well as details on the gun's testing and production for use in World War One. The various military models produced, the training of the men who fired them, and the remarkable range of accessories developed are all expertly discussed, amid a profusion of archival-quality photographs and illustrations from the world's finest collections and arms museums. Also, original serial numbers from the Vickers Ltd Register of Guns are provided. A very good bright copy in like dust jacket. The text is clean and fine. Foreign postage will be extra on this very heavy book. Seller Inventory # 11960
