About this Item
1868. First edition. xi, 119pp. and a frontispiece illustration. "Gowodean" is a lengthy pastoral poem, divided into acts and scenes. It was not written with a view to publication, but pressure of friends led the author to publish. The author, James Salmon (1805-1888) was a noted Scottish architect, born in Glasgow. The book is bound in the original green cloth covered bevelled boards with gold titling on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear and light soiling on the boards. The spine ends are bumped and there is a split with a little loss to the cloth on the bottom 7/8" of the front spine edge. The contents are tight and clean with a brief inscription on the front fixed endpaper. Seller Inventory # gScotPoetSalm01
