FIRST Edition 1968, Signed by authors Vardis Fisher and Opal Laurel Holmes in black in on half title page, comprehensive history of mining and life in the western United States and Alaska, 466 pages including index, heavily illustrated with more than 300 vintage black and white photographs, 250,000 words of text! covers every aspect of the mining experience, Book organized 4 sections: 1. The Gold Rushes, 2. Life in the Camps, 3. Crime and Justice, 4. Special Characters and Situations. Book is near Fine, only flaw is gift inscription on half title page else Fine, very clean brown cloth boards with gilt titles to spine, tight and square. Jacket is at least Very Good Plus, small tear on top edge of front board and rear flap has a fold else near Fine. Bright gold paper jacket with photographs shows nicely in a new mylar sleeve.
