Item description from seller

First edition. Introduction by the Hon. Theodore Roosevelt. 8vo. Original red cloth, this heavily discoloured and faded to spine, with printed labels to spine and front board, spotting to front and rear pages, the rear endpaper has been almost entirely removed, otherwise very good, with an armorial bookplate to front paste down and ownership mark in pencil of 'The Hon. Mrs. Holland Hibbert'. Mary Augusta Ward (1851-1920) had been a novelist of some reknown and a campaigner for anti-suffrage. Former US President Theodore Roosevelt approached her and asked for a series of articles to be written explaining to Americans what was happening during the great European war - this being the second of three, which praises the Americans for their entry into the conflict. xvi, 246pp., [2].
