This 1973 religious study examining the phenomenon of glossolalia-commonly known as "speaking in tongues." Noorbergen explores its spiritual significance, historical development, and controversial role within Christian communities. The book opens with vivid examples of ecstatic speech and follows with narrative, theological analysis, and historical context. Across three chapters, it investigates the sanctifying purpose of tongues, traces its appearance through church history, and scrutinizes the Corinthian church to clarify what the biblical gift may have originally meant.
