Tight copy in mylar-protected dust jacket. 166pp. From the jacket flap: Using the thesis that, on top of the biological and social 'self', there comes to be superimposed a moral 'self' with a peculiar capacity for experience of its own, this book makes a broad survey of the growth of individualism in the Greco-Roman world from Homer until the era of Jesus, and suggests an interpretation of the salvation promised by Jesus which is of universal interest.
