Let's Get a Good Shot — Bob Knight — 1969 First Edition — Rare Early Army Basketball Coaching Manual Scarce first edition of Let's Get a Good Shot, privately published by Robert M. “Bob” Knight in Walden, New York, in 1969, during his tenure as head basketball coach at the United States Military Academy at West Point. An important early instructional publication documenting Knight's developing basketball philosophy before his celebrated career at Indiana University. This manual addresses the principles of constructing an effective offensive system, including man-to-man and zone offense, player movement, offensive spacing, shooting selection, defensive recognition, and practice drills. The text emphasizes disciplined team play, creating high-percentage scoring opportunities, developing offensive reactions, and the importance of reaching the foul line. Original tan pictorial cover featuring a humorous illustration of a basketball player standing on a ladder to place the ball through the basket, with the title “Let's Get a Good Shot.” Housed in a reddish-brown presentation folder with a matching spine strip. The title page contains Knight's reproduced signature beneath his introductory acknowledgment, together with the original 1969 copyright statement identifying Robert M. Knight of Walden, New York. The signature is printed, not individually hand-signed. The handwritten name “Joe Mayo” appears at the upper right of the title page. This copy was acquired from an extensive private collection of basketball coaching literature containing other early Bob Knight instructional publications bearing the same ownership name. The identity of Joe Mayo has not been independently established. Contains 28 numbered pages followed by an unnumbered concluding page. An uncommon and desirable piece of early Bob Knight basketball history, particularly appealing to collectors of NCAA basketball, Army athletics, vintage coaching manuals, and the formative instructional writings of one of college basketball's most influential coaches. Very Good+ vintage condition. Original illustrated tan wrappers housed in a reddish-brown folder. The cover retains strong black illustration and lettering, with light age toning, scattered small surface spots, a minor dark mark near the upper right edge, and a few small marks near the right-center portion. Folder appears attractive and structurally sound, with minor age-appropriate wear. Interior pages are clean and legible with light, even age toning. Previous owner's name, “Joe Mayo,” handwritten on the title page. No significant tears, losses, or repairs evident in the supplied photographs. The original printed facsimile signature of Bob Knight appears on the title page; this is not an autographed copy.…
