First edition printed for private circulation. xii, 268pp., a frontispiece portrait, 1 other black and white portrait, a colour plate showing three designs from Indiaand a filding map showing Australasian journeys at the end of the book. George Lloyd Hodgkin (1880-1918), born at Newcastle-on-Tyne, was from a strict Quaker family. Ater working for a time as a civil engineer he moved to Australia and worked in a bank in Banbury. He was resolute that his principles did not allow him to undertake any work that would help the war effort. He took part in relief work in Armenia, and on a second visit to that country in 1918 he died of dysentry in Baghdad. After an account of his life by his sister, Lucy Violet Hodgkin, the story of his life is told by himself from his own letters and diaries. This is followed by various papers and fragments. The book is bound in the original light blue cloth covered boards with black titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear on the boards and bumping to the spine ends. The spine is slightly faded.
