Atlas pleasantly rebound in a modern half binding with a brown cloth spine and corners with gilt banding, and marbled paper sides. New endpapers but the original plain endpapers bound in as well. All else ORIGINAL. Some creasing and some neat professional paper repairs tot he title page. Page fore-edges browned and a few small browny stains to an odd blank page edge but all Maps are clear and good impressions. Maps Engraved on Thirty-Three Copper-Plates by R. W. Seale and W. H. Toms. As far as I can ascertain this is the First English Edition. The first map - Orbis Terrarum Veteribus Cogniti Tabula - is the Title called for in the contents list but the title to plate one is actually 'Veteris Orbis Climata ex Strabone' but the sub-title 'Haec Tabula.Terrarum Orbis fuerit Veteribus cognita' indicates that this is the correct plate. All other Plates/Maps titled exactly as on the Contents page. No Inscriptions or marks other than those noted above. The BOOK measures 39 cm x 26 cm - but each image, without including the border, is 30.5 cm x 20.3 cm (12" long x 8" high). Overall a very nice clean, tight, copy. See Images ; Oblong 4to 13" - 15" long.…
