About this Item
Not a book but a 7-inch, 45 rpm vinyl "single" record, Jan-Ell 459, vinyl very-good-plus. As "Take 17" is written, arranged and directed by one Ernest Smith, it seems unlikely these are the same clean-cut Boulder, Colorado, "Astronauts" who recorded for RCA 1963-1967, providing the title track for "Ride the Wild Surf." But who knows? The Five Superiors, on the other hand, were a black doo-wop group out of Oakland, California, comprising Charles Perry, Cornelius Weekly, Robert Lee Herring, Ralph Hollis (bass), and in all likelihood Dickie Wanzo here replacing soprano A.C. Herring, who had joined the Navy. (The Five Superiors' OTHER known single, "Big Shot / There's a Fool Born Every Day," on the Garpax label, can fetch $200, these days.) This single now reduced from $14.
