The publisher's advertisement explains that this volume was edited by Henry William Weber, and that 'the manuscript, from which this work is printed, is in the possession of the Marchioness of Stafford'. The work of Scottish politician and courtier Sir Robert Gordon of Gordonstoun, known as the historian of the noble house of Sutherland. This work details the genealogical history of that house until the year 1630. Also present is Gilbert Gordon of Sallach's contemporary continuation of the original manuscript, updating the genealogy to the year 1651.
