About this Item
A catalogue of the rich holdings of the Shanghai Museum of ancient artefacts recovered from sites of the early Chinese neolithic cultures of Liangzhe, Songze and Dawenkou. All three cultures, each dating to almost 5000 years before present, produced artefacts of clay, jade and ivory employing sophisticated technology and great artistic originality. Objects encompass those used in daily life, including vessels, ornaments, weapons and tools, to objects of powerful ritual significance. While some items exhibit intricate surface engravings of ornaments and masks, others create impact on the viewer with only pure dramatic form. Essays and detailed descriptions in bilingual English and Chinese. 237 pp., 117 colour plates, 40 line drawings, map. Size: 28 x 21 cm. Seller Inventory # 000488
