Item description from seller

First impression of the true first edition, with the number "1" on the printer's page. Simultaneously issued in both white and black cloth, with white and black dustwrappers, this is the white cloth and dustwrapper version. Published in the Canongate Myth Series - 'a series of novellas published by the independent Scottish publisher Canongate Books, in which ancient myths from various cultures are reimagined and rewritten. The project was conceived in 1999 by Jamie Byng, owner of Canongate, and the first three titles in the series were published on 21 October 2005. Though the initial novellas received mixed-to-positive reviews, the project was heralded by many in the press as "bold" and "ambitious", with the tabloid Metro calling it "one of the most ambitious acts of mass storytelling in recent years"'. (Wiki) ***Near fine in white cloth-covered boards, with gilt titles to the spine. Head and tail of spine just very slightly creased. The boards are clean and unmarked. No bumps. Corners sharp. Page block edges nice and clean. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Internally also near fine with no inscriptions. No creases or tears. Paper stock clean - just lightly tanned. With an integral silk reading ribbon place marker. The typeface used is particularly attractive, with chapter headings in a deep red colour. ***In a near fine colour printed dustwrapper, which has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of £14.99. The dustwrapper is near fine, with no creasing or other faults - bright and clean with no fading - just very slight rubbing to the raised gilt lettering in places. ***245 pages. 220mm x 147mm. ***'In this ingenious and spellbinding retelling of the life of Jesus, Philip Pullman revisits the most influential story ever told. Charged with mystery, compassion and enormous power, "The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ" throws fresh light on who Jesus was and asks the reader questions that will continue to resonate long after the final page is turned. Above all, this book is about how stories become stories.' (Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper) ***First impression of the true first edition. A beautiful copy of the white edition of "The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ". ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
